Making Comparisons & How do you like

I learned about 'Making comparisons' and 'How do you like'.

Making Comparisons is about comparing two things.
They are 'as ~ as', 'similar to', 'like', 'alike', and 'nothing like'.
Some are what I already knew. The others are not.

  • as ______ as
    • This tomato is as big as this plum.
    • (= They're about the same size.)
  • similar to / like
    • A nectarine is similar to a plum.
    • A Stratocaster is like a Telecaster.
  • alike (very similar but not the same)
    • These two screwdrivers are alike.
  • nothing like (very very different)
    • A screwdriver is nothing like a plum.

'How do you like' is used to ask for : (1)opinion or (2)instruction

A: How do you like your job? (opinion)
B: It's boring(hard/fun/interesting).

A: How do you like your coffee? (instruction)
B: I like it black. (or I like it with cream and sugar.)
